ICT in EDSA II

EDSA II is a political movement of Filipinos against the thirteenth president of the Philippimes, Joseph “Erap” Ejercito Estrada causing to overthrew him peacefully. Estrada was succeeded by his former vice-president, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, after he fled the Malcanang Palace.

Like the purposed of EDSA People Power Revolution, EDSA II is a protests of Filipino people for the impeachment and resignation of a president. Joseph Estrada is the second president to be the topic and reason of the movement of Filipinos.

The EDSA II and the resignation of president Joseph Estrada is approved by the Philippine law. It was all due to process of the law that is why it is a legal protest but some analysts, which foreign political agrees with, said that this assessment is unconstitutional. They think that EDSA II is a planned by a coup and it is not a democracy.

The vice president of the Philippines, Gloria Arroyo, that will inherit the position of the president was also denied by people. They do not want Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to be the president either.

People also have united ones again for the country. Every movement of Filipinos would have been impossible if ICT does not exist because people would have not communicated and would have not known the power of a united mind and hearts.

ICT in Million People March

Million People March is the march lead by millions of Filipinos to protests against the Pork Barrel Scam. Janet Lim Napoles said to have pocketed the money of our country after getting several evidences from the investigation. Many projects in Philippines should have completely done with the help of NGO’s but it turned out to be fake.

10-billion pork barrel scam have made Filipinos angry and vented it through social media. The pork barrel scam became the most trending issue after it was exposed on public. Though social media, Filipinos have expressed their dissatisfaction and disappointment towards our government.

Filipinos decided to show that they have had enough and tag the people through social media telling them to go to Luneta on August 26 in National heroes Day for a protests of what is happening in our country. Many people thought it was a set-up but proved to be true by the organizers.

The agenda of the event was to show to our Government that taxpayers are not pleased with them. Those who have found guilty of scamming the taxpayer’s money wants to be prosecuted by the people.

Thousands of Filipino voiced outraged graft-tainted pork barrel fund in the largest demonstration since the president, Benigno Aquino III, elected in 2010 on a platform to fight against the corruption here in the Philippines. Many professionals including students, workers, priest nuns, even civic and showbiz personalities have said to also attended the event for the graft in the country.

The social media-fuelled the rally dubbed  the “Million People March” was emulated on smaller-scale in other cities across the country and in various cities around the world where there are concentrations of Filipinos. That is one of the big help that the ICT done in the Million People March.

ICT in Yolanda People Finder

Yolanda is one of the cruelest typhoons which have ruined the beautiful surroundings of Philippines. It destroyed the tall buildings and houses. Many Filipinos became devastated because of losing their love ones. Many hearts have cried in pain. Many people are starving not just for food but for the help that they are calling to the Government. Yolanda is one of the most powerful storms in the records of the Philippines that have slammed into six central Philippine Islands leaving a wide swath of distraction and scores people dead.

The tragic incident of the Yolanda have caused into the missing bodies of corpse of hundreds of peoples. There families wanted the dead bodies to be found for the sake of their peace of mind as well as their.

Many people have helped the Yolanda victims giving them drinks and food to eat. Government had also gave a shelter for the Yolanda victims  who have nothing to live. Aside from the common help that they got, Filipinos have also helped the Yolanda victims to find the missing bodies.

They used the media to call for a unity of help in many parts of the country as well as to the foreign people outside the country.

Many foreigners have come to help Filipinos on their struggles that the typhoon Yolanda had brought to them because of the media. After hearing and watching it to the news and also seeing it through the fastest form of media which is the internet, they went to the Philippines with their minimal help that they can brought and becomes a big appreciation for Filipinos.
Locals and foreigners became one in helping the Filipinos in Yolanda People Finder making the situation much easier for Filipinos. Without them, Yolanda Victims may still not organize their lives in a much shorter period of time.

ICT in People Power Revolution

EDSA People Power Revolution is one of the most historical events in the Philippines. The revolution which already sealed in the Filipinos mind and heart. In that era, many Filipinos have lost their lives fighting for their rights and stopping the violence and crimes that had happened after the declaration of martial law by Ferdinand Marcos. Filipinos reunited to removed Marcos out of his seat.

Millions of unarmed Filipinos used the ICT for a nonviolent revolution. The nuns of Philippines have called for help and contacted Europeans who have work for the International Fellowship of Reconciliation (IFOR) for the situation happening in the Philippines. Filipinos with the students, church leaders, peasants, labor, and community organizers have come up to the idea and decide to have a nonviolent movement that would oppose the dictatorship after having a meeting.

Corazon Aquino used the Radio Veritas to inform the fellow Filipinos about the movement. Radio Veritas is the only media that served as the primary communication platform for the democratic opposition after the shutdown of non-government media shutdown. They used Veritas to inform Filipinos of political development and organized them for nonviolent protests. The assassination of Ninoy Aquino should be a secret because Marcos have prevent different local media from broadcasting about it but Radio Veritas had informed millions of supporters of Ninoy  galvanizing them to come to his funeral.

Francisco Nemenzo, a former president of the University of the Philippines said that without Radio Veritas, It would have been impossible or difficult to mobilize millions of people in a matter of hours.

This only shows that ICT helped us in every event to unite as one. Throughout the recent history, the Philippines has changed and this would have not happened if were not because of ICT.
